Great white sharks of the Neptune Islands, South Australia

The Neptune Islands south of Port Lincoln in South Australia are among the best places in the world to see great white sharks. On this trip we were lucky enough to also dive with the Australian sea lions in the crystal clear waters of Grindal Island (on route to the Neptune Islands).

This was my fourth trip to the Neptune Islands over the past 20 years, but my first trip during summer. We had great shark action on each day we were at sea. A pair of dolphins hung around the boat on the days we were anchored off the South Neptune Islands. The North Neptune Islands were well-stocked with enormous king fish.

The below was my favourite shot from the trip, taken at 20 meters depth with only natural light (no stobes).
